School Details

James F. Rhodes brings together diverse strengths and specialized programs where scholars can access a comprehensive education that prepares them for college, careers, and community leadership.

Formerly New Technology West, the Building Brighter Futures initiative determined that enrollment at this and two other nearby schools was unsustainably low and declining. To make better use of resources, this school will move and reopen as James F. Rhodes High School in 2026.

The combined school will unite four specialized schools—Facing History High School, New Technology West, Rhodes College and Career Academy, and Rhodes School of Environmental Studies—and support a culture of respect, compassion, and self-awareness while cultivating creativity and problem-solving skills. The curriculum is designed to meet both academic and social-emotional needs, ensuring that every student is supported in reaching their full potential.

Rooted in Old Brooklyn since 1932, Rhodes offers:

  • Rigorous coursework and a college prep curriculum that includes Advanced Placement, honors and College Credit Plus opportunities.
  • College and career preparation through Baldwin Wallace Upward Bound and Tri-C’s High Tech Academy.
  • A teaching professions pathway for future educators that explores the foundations of teaching, learning, and child development.
  • An interactive media pathway exploring the creative and technical aspects of digital design and application development.
  • A media arts pathway exploring digital design and visual storytelling through photography and videography, plus editing and production using industry-leading tools and techniques.
  • A full slate of clubs, extracurricular experiences and Senate League sports with the Rhodes Rams.
