School Details

Formerly Cleveland School of Science and Medicine, the Building Brighter Futures initiative determined that enrollment at this and three other nearby schools was unsustainably low and declining. To make better use of resources, this schools will merge and reopen as John Hay High School in 2026. The combined school will unite four specialized schools—Cleveland School of Science and Medicine, Cleveland School of Architecture and Design, Cleveland Early College High School, and Campus International High School, into one world-class institution offering unmatched academic rigor and real-world opportunities.

First opened in 1929, John Hay offers:

  • Rigorous coursework that includes Advanced Placement classes, dual-credit and honors programs.
  • College and career development with Tri-C’s High Tech Academy, Cleveland State University, and the world class institutions based in University Circle.
  • An engineering pathway focused on innovation, design and problem-solving through math, science, and technology to help students explore how things work, and how to make them better through hands-on projects and real world challenges.
  • A medical bioscience pathway in the foundations of health and disease, biological systems, and the science used to diagnose and treat illness.
  • Cleveland’s only International Baccalaureate (IB) program, a globally recognized curriculum that develops critical thinkers and prepares students for success in an interconnected world.
  • A full slate of clubs, extracurricular experiences and Senate League sports with the John Hay Hornets.
