Mary Church Terrell School

The Building Brighter Futures initiative has determined that this school’s enrollment is unsustainably low and declining in a poor condition building, limiting the school’s ability to offer a robust student experience. At the same time, there are available seats nearby in better condition buildings.

Current students will have a reserved seat at Wilbur Wright School, a specialty arts school with a comparable state rating—2.5 stars—housed in a larger building in good condition, plus in-progress and planned investments to offer more opportunities for students. The school will be renamed Wilbur Wright School of the Arts to continue to promote this specialty model.

More students in a building means better opportunities for students beyond the basics of art, music, and physical education classes, plus expanded team sports and extracurricular clubs.
