School Details
The Building Brighter Futures initiative has determined that continuing to offer a single-gender boys school at the elementary level is important and should be supported. However, both this school and the east side option, Kenneth W. Clement Boys Leadership Academy, are in poor condition buildings and have low and declining enrollment, limiting access to a robust student experience.
Next school year, the two schools will merge and reopen at the current Mary M. Bethune campus, which is in good condition and in the same region of the city as Ginn Academy, the all-boys high school.
Students will continue to have the option of transportation from any home address to this district-wide specialty model. In addition, current male students at Bethune who want to stay at this location will be able to enroll in available seats.
Higher enrollment means better opportunities for students beyond the basics of art, music and physical education classes, plus expanded team sports and extracurricular clubs.
The merged school will be named in honor of Cleveland physician and civil rights leader Dr. Kenneth W. Clement, to continue to promote the specialty model of this school.
