The new West Side high school–which
was unnamed as this guide went to
press—will focus on social sciences, a
field of study that deals with the structure
and relationships of people in society.
Our students will examine city planning,
political decision-making and media/
language arts to understand issues of
equity and social justice.
Along with our sister school focused on
science and engineering, this school will
offer strong arts programming and take
advantage of the rich arts and cultural
assets of the Near West Side.
A focus on Social Science…
Housed on the new high school campus near Edgewater Park, this new school will
serve students who are interested in social sciences.
Students will explore equity and social justice in urban communities through city
planning, civics, and media/language arts.
A strong campus-wide focus on the arts, including visual arts, band, orchestra,
and theater will take full advantage of the assets of the Detroit-Shoreway and Ohio
